I recently purchased a group of quilt blocks from eBay and they arrived today.

I didn’t know the pattern or what the maker was thinking but I loved them…so I bought them. With some research I found out that the pattern is Called Nine-Patch Nosegay. It is a Mountain mist pattern from 1937.
Mountain Mist included patterns in the wrappers of the packaged batting

I am missing one applique block, the sashing, and the border, but I think I can get a pretty close match to the fabrics and make those up to finish the quilt

from what I understand from some of my quilt historian contacts it is somewhat rare, even though it was a published pattern apparently it was not a popular one because few were actually made

it might be years before I get to it, but I had to buy the blocks because I had never seen them before and I love the colors….that gray was a surprise to me….but that is what the 1937 pattern called for….and gray is so modern now
Interesting pattern. The fabric is so sheer. Will you have to back it for stability?
the fabric is standard weight cotton 30’s fabric…not at all sheer , should be no problems at all
The blocks are really nice–love the colors, and they work so well together. Have you seen the book Mountain Mist Quilt Favorites? It collects lots of their applique and patchwork quilts, with gorgeous photos and lots of beautiful quilting. I received it for Christmas a couple of years ago, and it’s one of my favorites. (Available on Amazon)

Lordy, lordy…..yes, it is lovely…but Tim….exactly how many tops do you have???? Seems to me, the number 1,000 might be close!! LOL

I will need to find matching fabrics for the one missing applique block and make that, and matching gray fabric for all the setting triangles, and matching green for all the sashing strips that go between the blocks, and then fabric for the wide pieced border, that is white and gray…and then after I make that, it should go together easily 😉
The alternating block is interesting and the solid fabrics give it a modern day look. You seem to find the best quilts and blocks on ebay. My searches seldom reveal such good picks.
I look at all the listings almost every day….the really good ones are few and far between, but still out there 🙂
I don’t have the time to look everyday. Of course, looking everyday, you end up with a lot of quilts. Did I see 250 somewhere? I have a lot of unfinished projects, but probably not that many. And, they have been WIPs for many years.
Hi Tim – I must thank you for posting the trapunto video. The borders of the current quilt I am hand quilting is just calling out for this effect with double outlined stars and feather runs. Thank you so much for sharing so freely with others! Vicki Q.
